Entrance Notes

(1) The main entrance to the Earth and Ocean Sciences (EOS)--Main is located on the east side of the building behind the south end of the Earth Sciences Building. This entrance is level and accessible with a power door. This entrance leads to the main lobby of the building and the Pacific Museum of Earth. The main entrance to EOS South is also on the east side of the building further south towards Stores Road but this entrance is inaccessible due to stairs and has a manual door. EOS South has an accessible entrance on Stores Road (entrance #3).

(2) A second accessible entrance is located on the south side of the building on Stores Road. This entrance is level and accessible and has a manual door. It leads into the Earth and Ocean Sciences-South building.

(3) A third accessible entrance is located at the rear of the building, on the service lane off of Biological Sciences Road. This entrance includes a ramp and is level and accessible with a manual door. This entrance is a loading zone entrance.

Routing Notes

To reach the Earth and Ocean Sciences Building Main entrance from West Mall parkade, use the switchbacked path on the north side of the Biological Sciences Road (south side of the Kenny Building) to head east towards the Earth Sciences Building. Proceed south on the level pathways behind the Earth Sciences Building to Entrance #1.

Accessibility Notes

None. This building is fully accessible.

Caution Notes

The paving on the hill at the south end of the building on Stores Road is very steep and uneven. Use caution.

Year Erected: 1971

The Earth and Ocean Sciences-Main building, formerly the Geological Sciences Building, was constructed in 1972. It is composed of prefabricated units. This allows all of its interior walls to be movable (except the wall in the museum that supports the skeleton of a Lambeosaurus).
