Entrance Notes(1) The main entrance to the C.K. Choi Building is located in the centre of the east side of the building on West Mall in between the stone lion sculputures. This entrance is level and accessible and has a power door. This entrance leads into the main lobby of the building. (2) The second entrance to the building is located on the west side of the building near the Asian Centre. This entrance is inaccessible due to stairs. Other Accessibility Features

Choi Lounge History / Points of InterestYear Erected: 1996 The C.K. Choi Building officially opened on October 7th, 1996. The building is named for Cheung-Kok Choi in recognition of his donation to the Institute of Asian Research. The building was constructed using many recycled materials and incorporating innovative 'green' technologies such as solar panels, architecture designed to maximize access to natural light, and composting toilets. The building's unique design made it a candidate for the 1996 Energy Users News Efficient Building Award. The C.K. Choi building has also been the recipient of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia's Inaugural Innovation Award in 1998, the 1996 Building Owners and Managers Association's Earth Award, and the Progressive Award for Green Architecture in 1996. |
