Unique Location Features / Special Usage- n/a History / Points of InterestYear Erected: 1960 The Place Vanier Residence has room and board facilities for undergraduate students under 20 years of age. The first construction at Place Vanier began in 1959 with Robson House. The Shrum Commons Block, Okanagan House, and Sherwood Lett House followed in 1960. Kootenay House was added in 1961, between that year and 1968, Hamber, Mawdsley, MacKenzie and Ross Houses were built. In 1969 the complex was finished with the construction of the Cariboo and Tweedsmuir Houses. In 2001 and 2003 Korea House and Tec de Monterrey House have been added to house international students along with Canadian students. Place Vanier Residence was originally called 'The Lower Mall Residences' but the area was renamed in 1967 for the Canadian Centennial to honour Governor General Georges Vanier. |
