Finding Location Information

Search

The search function of this Web site allows users to search by several different criteria:

  • by location name
  • by keyword
  • by occupants
  • by address
  • by map grid coordinates
  • by short form (SIS) name

Select the search criteria from the drop-down box, input a search term into the text box, and click 'Search'. A list of possible matches is returned, sorted by location name (some additional general information is provided -- Address, Occupants, and Photo). To view detailed information on a particular location, click on the photo or arrow.

Clickable Map

Users can also search Wayfinding information by clicking anywhere on the large Campus Map. A list of possible matches is returned, sorted by location name (some additional general information is provided -- Address, Occupants, and Photo). To view detailed information on a particular location, click on the photo or arrow.

The list of Commonly Searched for Locations consists of UBC's major public buildings and attractions.

The Complete List of Campus Locations lists all locations currently in the Wayfinding database.

Viewing Location Information

Using any of the 'Finding Location Information' methods above will result in a location information page being displayed. The information page for each location has a number of key elements:

  • Locate on Campus Map (& Plot Second Location)
  • Detailed Location & Occupant Information
  • Closest Parking
  • Local Area Map
  • Footprint Map (Entrances and Accessibility Information)

Each of these information elements are colour-coded.

Display All / Hide All Feature

Each of the information elements on a location information page can be displayed or hidden by clicking the appropriate links near the top of the page. In addition, each information element can be hidden or 'closed' at any time by clicking on the appropriate icon. Users can use this Display All / Hide All Feature to create a customized, printable page suitable to their specific information needs.

Locate on Campus Map (& Plot Second Location)

The Locate on Campus Map feature Locate on Campus Map shows the location, highlighted by a red arrow Location Indicator, in relation to other nearby locations. To quickly jump to another location within the map, simply click the Clickable Map.

Plot Second Location

The Plot Second Location feature allows users to search for, find and highlight a second location on the Campus Map. The first location will be highlighted by a red arrow Location Indicator, and the second location will be highlighted by an orange arrow Location Indicator. The second location search function works very similarly to a normal Search.

These details can be displayed or hidden by using the Display All / Hide All Feature.

Detailed Location & Occupant Information

Detailed Location & Occupant Information Detailed Location & Occupant Information includes:

  • Address
  • Occupant(s)
  • Services in this Location (e.g. public phone, automated bank machine)
  • Unique Location Features / Special Usage
  • History / Points of Interest
  • Notes (other general location notes)

These details can be displayed or hidden by using the Display All / Hide All Feature.

Closest Parking

Parking information (closest parkade and surface lot) for a location can be displayed by selecting the Closest Parking Closest Parking option.

Local Area Map

The Local Area Map Local Area Map shows the location, highlighted by a red arrow Location Indicator, in relation to other nearby locations within a specific campus map sector. To quickly jump to another location within that sector, simply click the Clickable Map.

These details can be displayed or hidden by using the Display All / Hide All Feature.

Footprint Map (Entrances and Accessibility Information)

The Footprint Map (Entrances and Accessibility Information) information element Footprint Map (Entrances and Accessibility Information) shows detailed information for people requiring location entrance and approach details. A map of the location's footprint is provided, indicating entrances, ramps, and lifts. Other accessibility details are also displayed, including:

  • Closest Accessible Parking
  • Other Accessibility Features
  • Accessibility Notes (other general accessibility notes)

These details can be displayed or hidden by using the Display All / Hide All Feature.

Road Map & Directions (Google)

The Wayfinding at UBC site includes links to Google Maps ('zoomable' road maps and detailed directions). Click the Road Map & Directions (Google) 'Road Map & Directions' link from any location information page to access.

Satellite Image (Google)

The Wayfinding at UBC site includes links to Google Maps' satellite imagery feature. Click the Satellite Image (Google) 'Satellite Image' links from any location information page to access.

Check UBC Wireless Availability

Users can access a UBC IT listing of campus locations featuring wireless connectivity. Click the Check UBC Wireless Availability 'Check UBC Wireless Availability' link from any location information page to access.
